February Favorites

hello_february

I know it’s technically mid-February, but since it’s our first official post for February, I thought hello February was fitting.

I always liked the month February, {not just because it’s my birthday month ;)} but also because it means spring is just around the corner. And spring weddings! So in honor of  the recent engagements, and of the brides currently planning their weddings, here are a few of our favorite things for February. Hope this helps with your planning!

Cake Idea we Love

I am not a really big frosting girl {sorry for all of you that are!} and lately i’ve been seeing more and more naked cakes- and I lOVE the idea!

minicake3

They can still be just as beautiful as fully decorated cakes. I also love how this wedding had both frosted and naked cakes!

I also think that mini cakes are a great idea, bit sized and no need to cut them!

February’s First Dance Pick

Unfortunately I can’t post this song since it was just on the deluxe version of the album. However, for all the Taylor Swift lovers out there {like myself} there is FINALLY a perfect wedding song. On the album 1989, there is a song called “You are in love”. Lyrics include:

Morning, his place
Burnt toast, Sunday
You keep his shirt
He keeps his word
And for once you let go
Of your fears and your ghosts
One step, not much, but it said enough
You kissed on sidewalks
You fight and you talk
One night he wakes, strange look on his face
Pauses, then says, you’re my best friend
And you knew what it was, he is in love

Trust me, it’s a beautiful song. It is worth a listen if you are still searching for the perfect song!

Different Idea we came across

babysbreath

Recently baby’s-breath has become more popular, this adds a twist to it. Spray painting baby’s-breath changes it completely, and you can have it match your wedding colors! Love this idea and can’t wait to see it at an upcoming wedding we are coordinating!

Dress of the month!

lauralee2 lauralee1

This stunning dress is Maggie Sottero style Lauralee. Lauralee is a ballgown that features layers of tulle adorned with metallic floral lace appliques. Complete with a Swarovski crystal belt accenting the waist and sweetheart neckline. Finished with crystal button over zipper and inner corset closure.

Bridesmaid Dress of the Month

This Dessy Collection style 2844 features an empire waist and off the shoulder sleeves made of lux chiffon. This gown comes in 88 different colors, and you can even get a free color swatch directly from Dessy. Which is great so you can match all of your decor to it!

We hope you enjoyed our February picks! Happy Planning!

Spotlight Venue {The Streets of Old Detroit: Detroit Historical Museum}

It has been a while since we have done a spotlight venue {sorry!} I promise, every Saturday until the end of the year there will be a spotlight venue!

This week we are featuring a lesser known Detroit venue, The Streets of Old Detroit in the Detroit Historical Museum.

dhs1

During a recent trip to the Detroit Historical Museum I discovered “The Streets of Old Detroit”. The minute I stepped downstairs {it is the first floor of the museum} I immediately said that this would make an amazing and different wedding venue. When I got home that night I was doing some research and found out you actually can have a wedding there! You can rent out different exhibits at the Detroit Historical Museum {locations HERE} however, this post is strictly on “The Streets of Old Detroit”

This venue truthfully reminds me of an indoors Greenfield Village. Each store front is set exactly as it was way back when, and some store fronts actually allow you to go in {much like Greenfield Village} which makes an amazing backdrop for photographs.

The floors are made of cobble stone and actual tree stumps and as you’re walking down the streets- you really feel as if you are walking on a street. There are trees and branches both adorned with twinkle lights, park benches, store fronts, and mail boxes.

This venue is perfect for either a strolling reception {400 strolling guests} or an intimate wedding {150 seated guests}

The rental fee for the space is $1,500 with an additional $150 cleaning fee that will be added onto your total costs. Addition options include:

  • Docent-guided tour, as available: $25 per hour, per docent
  • Basic audio/visual package: $100 flat fee for up to 4 hours of use
  • Advanced audio/visual package: $200 flat fee for up to 4 hours of use
  • Museum store attendant: $25 per hour
  • Attended coat check: $25 per hour
  • Linen & chair cover placement by Detroit Historical Society staff: $50
  • Wedding rehearsals outside of standard business hours: $100
